Why I Left the Comfort of Employment to Start My Own Business

Today I am 45 years, 9 months and 23 days old.

For all of my career, I’ve had great jobs. I’ve worked with brilliant people, built high-performing teams, and had the kind of security that comes with a regular salary, a predictable routine, and a company logo behind my name. By most measures, it was a good place to be.

But deep down, I knew I wanted more.

I’ve always been drawn to the edge, the place where things aren’t certain, where the stakes are higher, and where you can’t hide behind “how it’s always been done.” That’s where the most exciting growth happens, both for businesses and for people.

Over the years, I’d coached founders, advised startups, and worked with leadership teams who were ‘all-in’ on their vision. I saw first-hand how decisions made on Monday could transform a company by Friday. That pace, that ownership, that ability to directly shape the outcome…I loved it. And I realised I didn’t just want to watch it happen from the sidelines. I wanted to live it.

Starting Accsellerate was my way of stepping into that space. It meant walking away from the safety net and saying: “I’m backing myself.” Yes, it’s risky. Yes, there’s uncertainty. But to me, risk is just another word for opportunity.

Of course, leaving the comfort of employment isn’t about throwing caution to the wind. It’s about knowing your skills, trusting your experience, and believing you can bring real value; even when there’s no guaranteed salary waiting at the end of the month. I’ve spent 20+ years scaling sales teams, building strategies that work, and helping businesses grow. I know what I can deliver. And now I get to deliver it for the companies that need it most, on my own terms.

For anyone sitting on the fence about making a big move; whether it’s starting your own business, changing industries, or taking on a new challenge, here’s my take: the fear never goes away. You just learn to carry it with you. In fact, I’d argue that if you’re not at least a little scared, you’re probably not aiming high enough.

So here I am. No comfort zone. No safety net.

Just a clear mission: to help ambitious tech companies bridge the gap between potential and performance. And honestly? I’ve never felt more alive.
